Lifesaving legend in Ambassador role

If anyone is familiar with every grain of sand on the Gold Coast, it’s former Chief Lifeguard, Warren Young.

If anyone is familiar with every grain of sand on the Gold Coast, it’s former Chief Lifeguard, Warren Young.

Former Chief Lifeguard Warren Young might have retired after 48 years in the job but he continues to mix with the public and talk up the Gold Coast in his new role as Brand Ambassador for Sherpa Property Group. It’s been a big year for Mr Young, being named Citizen of the Year, officially retiring, and seeing the Burleigh Heads Lifeguard Centre renamed in his honour before being approached to take on the Ambassador role.

“I spent a lot of time weighing up the prospect of retirement and I knew it was the people I would miss the most,” he said. “Everyone you meet has an interesting story to tell and against the backdrop of the ocean, the surf, and this amazing stretch of coastline, we have a lot of passionate conversations. When (Sherpa CEO) Christie Leet asked if I wanted to keep meeting people and talking about the beach, the surf, and the Gold Coast, it was a pretty easy decision to make.”

Mr Leet said creating a Brand Ambassador role for Mr Young was a great opportunity.

“No one on the planet knows the Gold Coast beaches better than Warren and we can’t let that knowledge of the coast and passion for our patch go to waste,” he said. “Sherpa’s mission is to do the hard work for our clients while they focus on lifestyle so there’s a lot of alignment with surf lifesavers who watch over everyone’s welfare while they focus on having a good time.”

Sherpa Property Group has recently completed a number of projects at the southern end of the coast, including 16 home sites in Coolangatta (Freedom Rainbow Bay) 17 home sites at Cabarita (Freedom Caba) and 44 sites at Bilambil Heights (Scenic Ridge), and four homes sites at Bilinga (The Golden Four).

Projects currently under construction include Perspective 488 and Perspective Two Sea at Palm Beach and Perspective 202 at Bilinga.

“Perspective 202 is a great model for anyone living in older homes along the beachfront,” Mr Leet said. “If you love where you live but want a new home, Sherpa can deliver exactly that. You can take a holiday and come home to a brand new luxury home where your old home used to be, with some extra cash in your pocket. We look for innovative ways to deliver the best lifestyle possible so owners can fully enjoy what Gold Coast living has to offer.”

Mr Young said his role would involve a lot of coffee and telling stories in cafes along his favourite stretch of Australian coastline.

“I like to get up early and go for a swim every morning and then spend some time hanging out in coffee shops, catching up with regulars and talking with visitors about this amazing part of the world that we enjoy every day,” he said. “It’s not just the beach and the surf that gets in your veins, it’s the lifestyle. And when you live with it for so long, you just want to share it with others.”
